Before mindfulness took the world by storm, before an avalanche of scientific studies demonstrated the benefits of meditation, before the Beatles went to India to study Transcendental Meditation, Jesus was teaching Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford how to meditate.
Although this is virtually unknown, meditation plays an extremely important role in A Course in Miracles. It appears in all three volumes of the Course but meditation is a particular focus of the Workbook, where it is called “a major goal of mind training” (W-44.3:3).
In fact, did you know…
The enormous focus placed on meditation in the Workbook leads to an inescapable conclusion: Every student of the Course should be practicing meditation as a basic component of walking this path.
In this workshop, Circle founder Robert Perry and executive director Emily Bennington will introduce you to Course-based meditation and offer practical instruction on how to meditate successfully. You will learn specific Course techniques that cover:
We will trust God’s Voice to speak as He sees fit today, certain He will not fail. Abide with Him this half an hour. He will do the rest.
In addition, Robert and Emily will walk you through each of the three meditation methods presented in the Workbook – Name of God, open mind, and down and inward - and you’ll receive a guided meditation for each.
The guided meditations are professionally recorded and are approximately 15 minutes each in length. These guided meditations are free with your workshop registration.
The Course teaches that, through the practice of meditation, we can reach the light in us, find peace, acquire vision, and most importantly of all, “reach God” (W-41.7:1) We hope you will join us for this important exploration of meditation in A Course in Miracles.
Robert Perry has been studying, writing about, and practicing the Workbook’s meditation instructions for almost 40 years. Throughout this time, he has been trying to raise awareness of meditation’s place in the Course. His primary effort has been to gain an accurate understanding of the instructions and then translate them into successful meditation, both for himself and others.
Robert is the founder of the Circle of Atonement and the lead editor of the Complete and Annotated Edition (CE) of A Course in Miracles, based on the original handwritten notes of Helen Schucman.
Emily Bennington is executive director of the Circle of Atonement where she leads initiatives – including the Course Companions global online learning community – that bridge the Course’s unparalleled wisdom with practical application.
Prior to joining the Circle, Emily led training programs on spiritual intelligence and mindful leadership for numerous Fortune 500 companies.
Emily is the author of three books, including Miracles at Work: Turning Inner Guidance into Outer Influence (Sounds True), which features a foreword by Marianne Williamson.

From our origin in 1993, the purpose of the Circle of Atonement has been to be a bridge into the profound and unparalleled wisdom of A Course in Miracles. We clarify the Course’s sometimes difficult language in order to make possible a deeper understanding of its teachings. We then help you put those teachings into practice, explaining how to apply them in your everyday life. Our work grows out of our commitment to be as faithful as possible to what A Course in Miracles says. It also grows out of our years of dedication to walking this path ourselves and our desire to see the Course’s purpose realized in the lives of students and in the world.
