MORE THAN AN INTRO
CLASS OUTLINE

WEEK 1: Introduction and Background
Monday, July 12

In this class we will cover the origin of the Course, how it came to be through Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford, the process of dictation, and more.

WEEK 2: The Main Characters of A Course in Miracles
Monday, July 19

This class will cover the "main characters" in the Course - God, Holy Spirit, Christ, Jesus, Sonship, etc. We will explore who they are and what their roles are in our lives.

WEEK 3: Basic Terms in A Course in Miracles
Monday, July 26

Oftentimes the Course will take conventional terms and give them a very unconventional new meaning. In this class we will cover the Course's definition of miracles, vision, forgiveness, the world, Heaven, and more.

WEEK 4: What the Course Says About Itself
Monday, August 2

A Course in Miracles is meant to be treated as a course to be studied, practiced, and applied, not just as a book to be read. In this class we will talk about what the Course itself says about itself and its goals.

WEEK 5: The Anger and Attack Cycle
(The Ego's Thought System)
Monday, August 9

In this class we will explore the birthplace of the ego, this belief in a separate self, and how it negatively impacts our lives.

WEEK 6: The Forgiveness Cycle
(The Holy Spirit's Thought System)
Monday, August 16

At the center of the ego's thought system is the illusion of separation and at the center of the forgiveness cycle is the truth of oneness, i.e. the truth of our sinlessness and innocence. Here we will explore this theme as well as what the Course says about forgiveness, which is its central teaching.

WEEK 7: The Spiritual Practice of the Course
Monday, August 23

A Course in Miracles is a practice-oriented spirituality. For one who has accepted it as his or her spiritual path, it means conscious commitment to practicing it as it asks. In this class we will explore what it means to practice the Course as outlined in the book itself.

WEEK 8: The Course as a Complete Spiritual Path
Monday, August 30

In our final session we will examine the three aspects of the Course’s program (study, practice, extension) as represented by its three volumes (Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers).

CLASS FORMAT

Classes will be held on Mondays from 7-9pm Eastern
July 12 - August 30

  • Opening quiet time based on a lesson from the Workbook (one that fits in with the evening’s theme) and including a dedication of the class
  • Check-in time: insights, experiences, comments, questions arising from the previous week’s class
  • Teaching, including time for questions and comments
  • An exercise or lesson practice
  • Closing practice and prayer

I have been a student of the Course for almost 15 years and I still found so much value in taking More Than an Intro. It really helped me to strengthen and deepen my understanding of some of the core teachings in a way I hadn’t pulled together before.

About the Circle

From our origin in 1993, the purpose of the Circle of Atonement has been to be a bridge into the profound and unparalleled wisdom of A Course in Miracles. We clarify the Course’s sometimes difficult language in order to make possible a deeper understanding of its teachings. We then help you put those teachings into practice, explaining how to apply them in your everyday life. Our work grows out of our commitment to be as faithful as possible to what A Course in Miracles says. It also grows out of our years of dedication to walking this path ourselves and our desire to see the Course’s purpose realized in the lives of students and in the world.
